  • Studies show that most dog bites are the result of irresponsible ownership
    Bites can be prevented by:

    • spaying and neutering (unsterilized dogs are up to 3 times more likely to bite)

    • not allowing dogs to roam

    • training and socializing dogs

  • Protect your kids by:

    • teaching them how to be safe around and respectful of dogs

    • teach them (and be aware yourself) that not all dogs are friendly

    • if your kids are approached by a strange dog, they should BE A TREE- stand still, calmly bring their arms to their chest, not make direct eye contact with the dog (this is perceived as a challenge) and wait until the dog leaves. They should NOT shout, scream, run or jump around.

  • Dogs bite because they perceive a threat or are in pain. They will react when teased or if something (like a running child) triggers their hunting instinct.

  • Thirty to fifty percent of dog bites are provoked when someone enters the dog's territory. Do not allow your kids to enter a neighbor's yard with a dog in it without the owner present.

  • Do not allow your children to tease dogs. This is unfair to the dog and potentially dangerous for the child.

Please remember to carry bags & clean up after your dog!
