For information on where to leash up (hints: anywhere in Boise City Limits, Military Reserve, Camel's Back/Hull's Gulch) click here to read Pete Zimowsky's guide. For the official line,  click here to visit Ridge to Rivers. Please help us preserve trails access (both on and off leash) by acting responsibly.

Always clean up after your dog. Bring poop bags with you,
be ready to take them home to toss them if necessary.
This is a big reason dogs are disliked, so pay attention
and pick up poop. Please help us educate other trail users.
If you run or bike with your dog, it's understandable that you
may not be able to stop and pick up, but please return when you
can walk the trail and do a little beautification- none of us
wants to step in or smell dog poop, and it's your job to clean up
after your pooch, so pitch in.

Be considerate of other trail users- some people are afraid of
dogs. Have your dog leashed and under control, watch for other users
and don't let your dog run up to them. People will let you know if
they want to meet your pet.

Watch for bikes and other pedestrians- make room to share the trail

Make sure that your dog is current on all shots, including
Bordetella for kennel cough

Do not bring a female dog in heat

Spayed/neutered animals are recommended

In addition, if you are on a trail where it's ok to have your dog off leash :

Always have a leash with you

If your dog is aggressive or chases bikes or wildlife, keep
him/her leashed (if your dog isn't reliable on recall, they
should be leashed)

When approaching other parties with dogs, have your dogs keep
their distance. Unleashed dogs and leashed dogs don't mix. A
normally friendly dog who is leashed may be aggressive
towards an unleashed dog. Some dogs need to be leashed
(because they chase bikes or wildlife, don't come when called,
or are aggressive). Don't let your unleashed dog, no matter
how friendly he/she is, run up to greet a leashed dog. (This
applies everywhere- in your neighborhood, at a park.
This is why leashed dogs are not recommended in Off Leash Areas)

Always keep your eye on your dog- mischief can happen quickly

Never bring more dogs than you can watch- 3 is about the limit
